Here’s my picks for the week…
To market, to market. It’s time to start stocking up for the winter at your local farmers’ market. Stock up on winter produce, meat and poultry, cheese, honey, maple syrup, eggs, pickles, sauces, olive oil, jams and jellies, other assorted condiments, baked goods, coffee beans, alpaca products, dog biscuits, all natural soaps, lotions and more.
What you can expect to find at area farmers’ markets. Look for varieties of apples, arugula, Asian greens, baby greens, basil, beans, beets, bok choi, braising greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chestnuts, cilantro, cucumbers, celeriac, celery, collards, dill, eggplant, escarole, figs, fennel, garlic, decorative gourds, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, lima beans, mushrooms, okra, onions, parsley, parsnips, pears, peas, pea shoots, peppers, popping corn, potatoes, radicchio, radishes, rutabaga, salad mix, salsify, scallions, shallots, spinach, many varieties of winter squash, sweet potatoes, Swiss chard, tomatillos, tomatoes, turnips, and cut flowers.
