You can feel the hustle and bustle of the holiday season approaching. Black Friday sales are already being promoted, and families are gearing up for Thanksgiving dinner. Is it too early to start thinking of what appetizers I’m going to make for New Year’s Eve?
This week, take some time to de-stress with a few of these foodie events. Taste the best of Bucks and Montgomery County, enjoy an all-you-can-eat pizza event, and learn how to pair wine with flowers. Pizza with a purpose. Liberty Hall Pizza is partnering with Fisherman’s Mark, a local community social services agency, for a fundraiser during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 12 – 20). The fundraiser takes place at the pizzeria on Tuesday, November 15, and Wednesday, November 16, from 5 – 9 pm.
If you eat at the pizzeria during these days, mention to your server that you are there to support Fisherman’s Mark and 15% of your bill will go to support the agency. This deal applies to dine-in and out orders. On November 16, you can enjoy a special deal in the “back room” which is all-you-can-eat two-hour event of unlimited family-style pizza, salad and dessert. Tickets are $50 for adults and $40 for kids.
How to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. 
Thanksgiving is right around the corner,
and Jim Hamilton from Hamilton’s Grill Room wants to help you cook by giving you a step-by-step open kitchen demonstration on November 15 at the restaurant. While you watch, you’ll also be able to reap the benefits of the delicious four-course dinner.
The dinner includes broiled oysters with Pernod butter, boned, chestnut-stuffed capon, garlic and herb mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes with bourbon, brussels sprouts with bacon, cranberry relish and caraway parsley rolls. Also enjoy pumpkin and ginger ice cream pie. It’s $65 per person inclusive. Contact the restaurant directly to see if there are spots left. Call 609.751.8587 for more information.
Pay-what-you-want ribs & burger fundraiser. The Hattery Stove & Still in Doylestown is hosting a “pay-what-you-want” ribs & burger fundraiser to help a local family whose daughter is fighting a childhood cancer. Proceeds from the benefit, to be held on Wednesday, November 16, from 5 – 10 pm, will go towards the family’s medical expenses. Corrine Hare, the girl that was diagnosed with osteosarcoma last year, loves ribs, which is why The Hattery has added them to the lineup of burgers for this fundraiser.
Diners can choose from five burgers in addition to the baby back ribs, which come glazed with house pineapple BBQ sauce and served with french fries and kohlrabi cole slaw. The burgers include: house blend, which is black angus blend of sirloin and chuck; Pierre, which is Boursin cheese and caramelized onions; Main St., which is gruyere and bacon topped with a fried egg; Kennet Square, which is mixed mushrooms and gorgonzola; and the tuna burger, which is grilled rare tuna, truffle honey, Asian slaw and sriracha aioli. The burgers are served on a toasted brioche bun with fries.
Tasting Bucks/Montgomery County. The Taste of Bucks-Mont event is this Thursday, November 17, from 6 – 9 pm. This will be a night that highlights the community’s best food, wine, beer and spirits, while raising money for the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation Scholarship Fund, and the American Culinary Federation Philadelphia Chapter. Book your tickets in advance so you can experience an evening full of food, music, libations, tastings, raffles and silent auction. Attendees will vote for The People’s Choice Awards in six categories: appetizer, entree, dessert, best beer, best cocktail, and ACF student winner. Price is $25 in advance and $35 at the door. The event itself is held at The Fuge in Warminster, PA.
Let’s talk about food. The Doylestown Community Programs, the education non-profit arm of the Doylestown Food Market, is hosting another FED Talk this Thursday, November 17, from 7 – 9 pm, at the Doylestown Mennonite Church in Doylestown. Dr. Julia Helstrom, DO, will discuss whether some of our health issues could be due to food sensitivities or other allergies. How do we figure it out? It will be an in-depth discussion and Q&A, for $8 per person.
Wine and flower arranging. Enjoy a tasting of Crossing Vineyards‘ wine while learning how to create a perfect flower arrangement. Take your newly learned skills to the Thanksgiving dinner table, or save them for a special event. Cost of the event is $65 per person, and it includes wine tasting, floral materials and instructions. Find more information and where to buy tickets here.
