Bucks Food Calendar: March 21, 2016

Zio Gio Sandwich, Zio Gio

I’ve recently been stepping up my kitchen game. Spring is a time for good produce, fresh recipes, and getting out of the winter rut. And you can find real inspiration from eating at one of your favorite local restaurants.

Every time I go out to eat, and I have a good dish, I make a mental note to see if I can replicate it later. Looking at some of the food events this week, I see an opportunity to create some new dishes of my own, but try it from the professionals first.

Lahaska Restaurant Week, Caleb's American Kitchen

Restaurants. Continuing through this week is the Lahaska Restaurant Week. Caleb’s American Kitchen is at it again with another unique three-course prix fixe menu for only $30 per person. Until March 25, try out this menu with dishes like duck confit flatbread, lamb shank, or Creole jambalaya. View the full menu here.

This week is also Delaware River Towns 2016 Restaurant Week in with restaurants in New Hope, Lambertville, Frenchtown and more up river offering special prix fixe deals. Click here for participating restaurants.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

Free dinner. If you are missing corned beef and cabbage already, you still have a chance to fill your belly with this classic Irish dinner. This Monday, March 21, the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run in Perkasie is opening its doors to the community for a free dinner of corned beef, cabbage, and homemade treats for dessert. The meal is served in Hoopes Hall from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

Zio Gio Sandwich, Zio Gio

Free sandwich. Ever since Zio Gio, an Italian eatery in Levittown, PA first opened up in December 2014, partners Jim Nasuti and John Marsella have watched their customers struggle between ordering a cheesesteak or a roast pork sandwich (I call it, “The Philly Dilemma”). So Nasuti and Marsella decided to combine the two to create a “best of both worlds” sandwich. They’ve put their slow roasted pork and seared rib eye steak on an Italian roll with sharp provolone to create a fantastic sandwich. Deciding on what to eat is now easy!

They’ll be giving away their new creation for free on Wednesday, March 23 from 11 am to 2 pm at Zio Gio, located at 3901 Veteran’s Highway in Levittown, PA.

Bacon, Pixabay

Bacon! Starting this Thursday, March 24, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant will host their third-annual Bacon Madness, bringing basketball and bacon lovers together. Every Iron Hill location will feature a special menu of bacon dishes. Pair this with the company-wide release of Smokin’ Blonde, its popular Belgian style blonde ale brewed with smoked malts.

Every Iron Hill location will feature different bacon dishes from Thursday until Sunday, March 27. The North Wales location, which is a little outside of Bucks, will have crispy smoked bacon mac’n’cheese bites with fiery chipotle ketchup. We know how much Bucks County residents love their bacon and beer, so feel free to travel a little outside county lines this week.

Purim in Paris

Purim in Paris. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know Purim starts at sundown on Wednesday, March 23. Purim is a fun, almost carnival-like holiday, celebrating the Jews narrow escape from extermination in long ago Persia. You can enjoy Purim this year with a community Purim Seudah Dinner with the theme, Purim in Paris.

The dinner is held at the Glazier Jewish Center in Newtown on Thursday, March 24. A Megillah reading will start at 6:15 pm and the French cuisine Seudah dinner will begin at 7 pm. There will be French cuisine, fine wines, a crepe station and plenty of Purim spirit. There is also entertainment with a magician and mind reader, Steve Wallach. It’s $36 for adults and $25 for children. Reserve by calling 215.497.9925 or visit this website to buy online.
