Bucks Food Calendar: June 8, 2012

The weather looks wonderful this weekend. Perfect for tootling around Bucks County, visiting farmers’ markets or having a glass of wine on the patio of a local winery.

Here are some of my “picks” for this week:

  • On Saturday, the Homestead General Store – also coffee roasters – will hold their annual Coffee & Crafts Festival  in Upper Black Eddy. There will be local craft artisans, coffee tasting, live music, and food.
  • The Strawberry Festival continues at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley this weekend. Lots of activities, and strawberry picking too.
  • The Annual Chicken BBQ at the West Amwell Firehouse, just across the river in West Amwell, NJ on Saturday.
  • Monday night bring the pooch to the Stockton Inn for a Yappy Hour that benefits the local dog rescue organization, Lulu’s Rescue. A $10 dollar donation gets you into this fun event on the garden patio at the Stockton Inn.

To market, to market. What can you expect to see at area farmers’ markets this week? Asparagus, strawberries, spinach, a variety of kale and lettuces, rainbow chard, dandelion greens, kohlrabi, broccoli, Asian turnips, bok choy, pea shoots, collards, radishes, leeks, spring onions, garlic scapes, scallions, fiddleheads, zucchini, mushrooms, summer squash and dill, parsley and other herbs, plus greenhouse-grown tomatoes. Many farmers’ markets will also have eggs, dairy products, pastured meat, baked goods and more.
