Bucks Food Calendar: June 6, 2016

Chick'nCone

Things are heating up, and not just outside. No one likes a sticky spring/summer day, but there are always ways to cool off. Sip some margaritas half price this week; try some fresh, summer crab dishes; or take a dip in a pool with a perfect poolside menu to go along with it. Here’s what else you can find in Bucks County this week:

Crab Cakes, Karlton Cafe
Summer special.
For the month of June, enjoy crab fest specials at the Karlton Cafe. Crab specials will be available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is served daily from 8 am – 11 am. Try specials like maple-braised peach pancakes (no crab, but still tasty), Crab Cake Benedict, or Alaskan King Crab omelets. Lunch is served Monday through Wednesday from 11 am – 2 pm, Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm. Try a crab cake sandwich for lunch, and for dinner, try their crab cakes that are topped with creole hollandaise. Dinner is served Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5 pm – 9 pm. Call to reserve a table at 215.538.8353.

The Raven
Poolside eats! You know it’s summer when the local pools start opening up. The pool at The Raven is now open from 11 am until dusk, and they have a new poolside menu so you can swim and snack. Try shrimp cocktail, gazpacho, crispy calamari, thai lettuce wraps, and other nibbles that are perfect for lounging by the water. The poolside menu is served from 12 – 6 pm daily. Call for reservations at 215.862.2081.

Hamilton's Grill Room
Wednesdays for Women. This week’s Wednesdays for Women, a networking event by Hamilton’s Grill Room, is featuring Maya van Rossum. Rossum is the Delaware Riverkeeper and head of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network. She will be discussing much needed information on how women and community members can save the Delaware River.

Each ‘Wednesdays for Women’ begins at 6:30 pm with a twenty minute presentation on the given subject, followed by a three-course dinner, including coffee or tea.

Fajitas for everyone. Thursdays are now Fajita-Rita-Nights at the Rising Sun Inn. From 5 pm – 10 pm in the tavern and on the deck, sizzling fajitas will be served in a warm tortilla shell with peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Yes, the guac is extra, for just $1. You get a choice of chicken, shrimp, or steak for your protein. Margaritas are $5 each. Questions? Call the inn at 215.721.6350.

LagunitasPhilly Beer Week Special.  Head to the Wycombe Publick House for a Philly Beer Week special event on Thursday, June 9 from 6 pm – 9 pm. There will be a tapping of Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale. This ale is known as the hoppiest beer ever brewed at Lagunitas.

Genevieve's Kitchen Website

Tapped. On Thursday, June 9, the Doylestown Food Market will present the film Tapped at the County Theater at 20 East State Street in Doylestown. I’ve actually seen this documentary, and it’s an important film about the impact that bottled water has on our health, community, and the environment.

This special event will also feature a panel following the film. Lifefactory glass water bottles will be available for 20% off. Tickets are $8 for co-op members, and $10 for others. The doors open at 6:30, and the film starts at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased here, or at the County Theater in Doylestown.

Before the film, stop at Genevieve’s Kitchen, right across the street from the theater. Each dish at this local restaurant is prepared from scratch and from local merchants. The dinner menu is available from 5 pm – 9 pm. Try a salad like the spinach, frizzled prosciutto, pine nuts, shaved pecorino, with balsamic vinaigrette, or share a butcher board of Italian cured meats and cheeses.
