Bucks Food Calendar: January 4, 2013

The weekend looks nice – sunny and cool. Lots going on in Bucks and nearby. Let’s see what’s happening.

Beer fans might want to stop by Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope on Friday night for their monthly barrel tapping. Check out their Facebook page for details. Friday night is also a great opportunity to sample and taste four specially chosen Flying Dog Brewery beers at the Washington House in Sellersville. The Washington House will also be hosting a five course prix fixe wine dinner on Tuesday, January 8 with ten wines for sampling. Call 215-257-3000 to make a reservation.

ottsvilleindoormarket10to1-2To market, to market. Three indoor farmers’ markets are going this Saturday: the Ottsville Winter Farmers’ Market held in the greenhouse at Linden Hill Gardens in Ottsville, the Stockton Indoor Market in Stockton, NJ and a newcomer on the scene, the Stangl Factory Farmers’ Market in Flemington. See the full calendar for more details. There is still local produce to be had as well as other locally produced foods.

Betsy Ross 2013 (2)Beginning this Monday, the Cock n’Bull in Lahaska will be presenting their annual Evening in the Colonial Kitchen, which continues every Monday evening through March. The series features two different colonial-era characters each week from the American Historical Theater and a savory menu of authentic colonial cuisine. The actors share fascinating tales of America’s early days while dinner guests interact with food historians preparing an 18th-century style dinner over a roaring fire. Evening in the Colonial Kitchen is particularly suited for families and school groups. The cost is $22.95 for adults and $12.50 for children 10 and under (beverages not included.) For the complete Colonial Dinner menu, visit www.peddlersvillage.com. Reservations are recommended. Call 215-794-4000.

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle coverThe Doylestown Food Co-op is joining with the Doylestown Bookshop for a book club focused on our food, where it comes from and how to eat consciously and locally. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month to discuss the book and share dishes inspired by that month’s selection. Join them at 6:30 pm. This month’s book is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.
