Things are starting to pick up this week in Bucks County, which means there is plenty to do and plenty to eat. Try out a cooking class or go back in time to 1989 with some special lunch items. You can even learn how to have a healthier new year at a complimentary dinner.
In 1989, a lot of history was made, including the birth of the World Wide Web. In that same year, the Abruzzese family acquired the historic Pineville Tavern, which was originally built along a stagecoach route in 1742, and was a mainstay for hungry and thirsty locals and travelers alike for generations.
As a celebration to commemorate their anniversary, the Tavern will be offering menu items during their lunch hours at 1989 prices for 20 days, starting today, Monday, January 11. Executive Chef Drew Abruzzese will be cooking up items like: Snapper soup for $1.75; half pound cheeseburgers for $3.75; fried chicken & coleslaw for $4.75; pork roll & cheese sandwiches for $3.25; crab cakes, fries & coleslaw for $4.75. Their lunch menu is served Monday through Sunday until 4 pm. The Pineville Tavern is at 1089 Durham Rd (Route 413) in Pineville.
This month’s Dinner with the Doc at the Applebee’s Barn Plaza in Doylestown is all about the New Year. Thinking about how you’re going to tackle 2016 and make it your healthiest year yet? This Dinner with the Doc is called “New Year, New You: Taking Control with a Wellness Lifestyle.” Enjoy a complimentary dinner and learn about healthy food and lifestyles to get you ramped up for the next 12 months. This time, there are two “docs” leading the dinner —and Dr. Michael Brady and Dr. Caren Weiner from the Bucks County Wellness Centre. Register here, general admission is free. The dinner is today, Monday, January 11, and starts at 7 pm.
It’s time for the monthly Wine Tasting Dinner at the Washington House Restaurant in Sellersville. On Tuesday, January 12 at 5 pm, come to learn about and taste 10 blended wines from all over the globe, paired with a five-course dinner. Cost for the dinner is $59, and reservations are recommended. There’s nothing like a big bowl of chili to warm you up on a cold winter’s day. Great cooking isn’t just about following recipes—it’s about technique. Owner/Chef AJ will demonstrate this at the Karlton Cafe in Quakertown on Wednesday, January 13 from 4 – 6 pm. He will walk you through, step by step, on how to create a finished pot of chili for four that you can take home to share. The cost of the class is $100 per person and includes all supplies. Registration is required as space is limited.
[New date!] Thursday, February 11, 2016: Caffé Galleria in Lambertville, known for their diverse, Mediterranean-inspired menu, including great vegetarian and vegan options, will host this intimate event. Details coming soon.
Saturday, February 27, 2016: “Let’s Get French” Dinner at the Hotel du Village in New Hope (just north of town). The landmark has reopened as an event venue under new ownership. They have beautifully restored the Hotel, including the inn. Join us for “Let’s Get French,” a classic French meal with wine pairings and other surprises.
