Bucks Food Calendar: January 11, 2013

Temps in the high 50’s? You bet. This weekend will definitely be on the mild side. Hope the bulbs don’t start coming up. Nice time to get out and enjoy Bucks County.

Farm to table_2 (2)To market, to market. Did you know there are 52 percent more winter farmers markets operating in the U.S. this year compared to last? We’ve seen it here in Bucks County. Stop by the Ottsville Indoor Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning and you’ll find fresh bread, artisanal cheese, mushrooms, eggs, jams & jellies, freshly roasted coffee, cookies, chocolates, baked goods, handmade soaps, pickles, candles & crafts and even a massage! The market continues every Saturday through February 23, 10 am to 1 pm. The Wrightstown Farmers’ Market will be holding their twice monthly mini-market with all your favorite vendors this Saturday, January 12. Same location as the seasonal market at 2203 Second Street Pike in Wrightstown from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday. You’ll find locally grown produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs, baked goods, mushrooms, nuts, freshly roasted coffee and more.

What’s cooking? I’ve just finished adding a whole bunch of cooking classes to the food calendar. What a fun idea to break up the winter months. We’re fortunate to have several really good cooking schools in Bucks County and their spring calendars are full of interesting classes, from cooking basics to wine to cuisines from all over the world. Check out the Cooking Cottage in Sellersville, Carlow Cookery in Doylestown, The Kitchen Garden Cooking School in Upper Black Eddy and Casa Casale in Lahaska. Makes a nice gift too.

There are also two firehouse breakfasts this Sunday – one in Upper Black Eddy and one in Richland Township (Quakertown). Nice day for a drive and an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.

LNH Winter Fest 2013Coming up soon – get your tickets – is the Lambertville New Hope Winter Fest, taking place this year on January 24 through 27. The weekend before is the Annual Fire & Ice Ball (January 19) and the weekend of the fest there will be plenty of food events: Taste of Winter Fest (January 24), Beef n Brew (January 26) and the famous Chili Cook-Off (January 27). Many of these events sell out so consider checking out the above links and making plans soon.
