Bucks Food Calendar: February 1, 2013

footballIt’s Super Bowl weekend! To be honest, I’m not a football fan but I do enjoy the eating tradition that goes along with this American uber-event. And this weekend, there are plenty of places to go to enjoy the game or eat and drink before the game!

The Stockton Market is offering lots of good food for your Super Bowl party. Ron’s BBQ (formerly Mighty Quinn) will have wings, BBQ sliders, chili, baked beans and coleslaw. Metropolitan Seafood will offer everything from chipotle chicken wings, shrimp cocktail platters and all types of shrimp (buffalo, coconut, tequila…oh my) as well as sushi platters. Highland Gourmet will be making their beef chili and Milk House Farm Market will feature vegetarian chili. For large or special orders, pre-order for Sunday pick-up.

Old York Cellars in Ringoes will celebrating the big game with a wine and chili tasting, with chili provided by Bitter Bob’s BBQ in New Hope. They’ll also be offering free tastings for “football widows” on Sunday.

Pierogies; iStockSt. Mark’s Orthodox Church in Wrightstown is selling lots of good food on Saturday in preparation for the big game. Come to their “Ethnic Food in Time for Super Bowl Party” to buy pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasi and halushky.

Old Bethlehem Road Hotel in Quakertown is really doing it up and sounds like a fun place to watch the game. They’ll be giving away a free beer every time a beer commercial airs (to the first person who calls it), free food at half time and a free jello shot every time your team scores. Game time is 6:30 pm but they will open at 11:30 am on Sunday and feature all-you-can-eat wings and $2 pounders.

Finally, if you want some great BBQ for the game, check out our previous post, Superbowl BBQ, for a list of BBQ places in Bucks County and where to go for great wings in Bucks.

If you’re interested in gluten-free cooking there are two events happening this Tuesday, February 5. Carlow Cookery is offering a class, “Gluten Free Everyday,” and Medicine in Balance is hosting their monthly Gluten Free/Healthy Living Support Group. Find out more on their websites.

On Saturday, the Presbyterian Church of Milford is hosting a Locally Grown All You Can Eat Breakfast from 6 am to 12 pm. Sounds great.

Finally, there are two interesting movies this week about our food. On Saturday, Snipes Farm and Education Center is showing, “American Meat,” a pro-farmer documentary about chicken, cattle and hog production in America. This Movie & Popcorn Night is being held at the Fallsington Friends Meetinghouse in Levittown. And on Wednesday evening, the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance is showing, “Queen of the Sun,” a documentary about global bee crisis and its impact on our food supply. The movie is being shown at Delaware Valley College. See their website for more details.
