Bucks Food Calendar: August 6, 2014

Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. That’s the weather forecast for this Thursday through Sunday, courtesy of the National Weather Service. Whether you believe in a higher being or not, you’ve got to admit that this weather feels like a gift from above after the winter we had.

People holding glasses of white wine making a toastAnd it is perfect weather for sitting back and sipping some wine…or listening to music and imbibing wine…or cooking with wine…or eating and savoring wine. Well, you get the idea.

Tonight, McCoole’s Red Lion Inn in Quakertown will treat you to complimentary tastings of wines from four distinguished wineries paired with the perfect dishes. A Taste of Summer Wine Pairings takes place tonight, starting at 6:30 pm. Tomorrow night, join your friends and neighbors for Eat, Drink and Be Merry in Quakertown, a historic walking tour of Quakertown, followed by a buffet dinner and Red Lion Brewery beer tasting at McCoole’s. The fun starts at  5:45 pm. See McCoole’s website for more information.

Wine and Music. You can enjoy our unseasonably cool and dry weather Friday evening at the Summer Wine & Music Series with Jessica Martindale at Crossing Vineyards. Bring your own picnic and buy a bottle to sip while you listen to this country singer and songwriter from Nashville. The Idlewoodsmen will be playing at the weekly Friday  unWINEd Wine Concert Series at The Market by Shady Brook Farm at Delaware Valley College and John Creidler of The Mango Men will be at the unWINEd Wine Concert at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley. On the other side of the river, Wine and Music Under the Stars at Old York Cellars in Ringoes begins at 6 pm with Gregg Parker playing, also a weekly Friday event.

Villa Millagro_mistWine and food…and maybe some beer too. All weekend, Villa Milagro Vineyards in Finesville, NJ (near Milford) invites you to Lose Yourself in the Vines with a walking tour of the vineyard to learn about the grapes and the other plants growing there. You can finish off the tour with a wine tasting in the newly renovated tasting room.

Old York Cellars thinks yoga and wine go well together. Why not? Feel good with some stretching and breathing, followed by some easy sipping and nibbling good chocolate at their Yoga & Wine class on Saturday from 11 am to 12:30 pm.

On Sunday, it’s a Seafood Bake at Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna. The menu? Panfried crab cakes, jumbo seasoned shrimp, Chesapeake Bay mussels, Top neck clams, grilled chicken with mango, locally grown corn, red potatoes and artisan rolls. Oh, and a glass of your favorite Sand Castle wine. Cost is $40 pp and also includes a souvenir glass. See their website for more information. Ticket purchases end at 5 pm on Thursday, so do it quick.

cool foxy lady wine_Unionville VineyardsAt Unionville Vineyards on Sunday, come out for the Release Party of the 2013 Cool Foxy Lady Dessert Wine. In addition to tastings of this 100% Vidal dessert wine, there will be live music from local artist Victor Tarassov and paired refreshments from the Brick Farm Market in Hopewell.

More wine, more chocolate at Crossing Vineyards on Sunday with their class, How Sweet It Is: Pairing Wine and Chocolate. The fun starts at 2 pm. Contact the vineyard for details and tickets.

As a nice segue from all that wine over the weekend, consider the Beer Versus Wine Dinner at the Washington House Restaurant in Sellersville on Tuesday evening. Rob Reese of Vintage Wines & Spirits and Dominic Capece of Free Will Brewing Company are partnering to offer a dinner of four food courses, each paired with a  complimentary wine and beer. You be the judge. Details here.

Not a wine drinker? The Vintage Grille in Fountainville presents another in their series of cooking demonstration and pairing dinners, The Cook & the Cork: Cooking with Beer, also on Tuesday evening. The menu includes Arugula Salad with Orange Ale Vinaigrette, Guiness Glazed Swordfish, Beer Battered Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Cherry Lambic Crisp. Click here for more information.

Coming up. Yes, it’s already the middle of August! That means the 66th Annual Middletown Grange Fair taking place in Wrightstown, from Wednesday through Sunday this coming week, August 13 – 17. For tickets and more information, see their website and our post, Food at the Middletown Grange Fair.
