Bucks Food Calendar: August 3, 2012

Another hot one this weekend! If you’re not down the shore or someplace cooler, check out all the events happening this weekend in Bucks and nearby. It’s First Friday in both Doylestown and Perkasie too.

Blue Moon Acres is celebrating the grand opening of their new store in Pennington, NJ this Saturday from 12 pm to 4 pm. You may know of Blue Moon Acres by their excellent microgreens (see our post about them here) and their farm in Buckingham. The new market is on land they purchased four years ago and have been cultivating to produce vegetables and herbs. The grand opening party will include local chef demonstrations, great food, music, farm “festivities” and children’s activities too.

The Tubby Olive in Newtown will be hosting a Summer Dessert Night. If you haven’t been to the Tubby Olive, this is a good time to go. The store carries almost three dozen types of gourmet olive oil and three dozen types of balsamic and red wine vinegar, as well as other specialty food items. It’s fun to taste different oils and vinegars and this Saturday evening will be an opportunity to experience desserts made with their products as well as enjoy drizzling flavored balsamics over ice cream! You’ve got to taste it to believe it. The fun begins at 7 pm.

To market, to market. What can you expect to find at local farm markets? Sweet corn, berries, peaches, pears, berries, melons, tomatoes (heirloom, cherry, plum and slicing), green beans, okra, sunflowers and bouquets, red and white potatoes, basil, striped and purple eggplant, fresh garlic, onions, scallions, cucumbers, cabbages, patty pan squash, zucchini, yellow squash, red and striped beets, turnips, kohlrabi, lettuces, Swiss and ruby chard, brussel sprouts, collards, kale, radishes, mushrooms, dill, parsley, cilantro. You’ll also find free range eggs, meat raised on pasture, baked goods, interesting jams, honey and more. Check here for your closest farmers’ market.
