Bucks Food Calendar: August 17, 2015

Yellow Watermelon from Blooming Glen Farm

Umbrella drinkThe streets of Bucks County have felt pretty empty the past week or so. It feels like everyone is away on vacation. But if you’re not, and sticking it out in beautiful, bountiful and humid Bucks County, there is lots to eat and drink!

The 3rd Annual Yardley Restaurant Week began yesterday and continues through Sunday, August 23. Seven Yardley restaurants are offering specials and prix fixe menus: Canal Street Grille, Charcoal BYOB, Continental Tavern, Trattoria Rosa Bianca, Yardley Inn and Vault Brewing Company. See the individual restaurant websites or Facebook pages for more detailed information.

Ron Strouse_DFC

Don’t miss the Doylestown Food Co-op’s Inaugural Celebrity Chef Farm to Table dinner this Saturday, August 22 at the Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow in Solebury. Doylestown Mayor – and former professional chef and innkeeper – Ron Strouse will be in the kitchen – and at the grill – for this delicious five-course dinner, combining great, local food and fundraising! And, of course, I have to share the menu with you: hors d’oeuvres include a spicy ratatouille, a lentil yoghurt salad and a country pate on a red potato coin; Chilled Double Tomato Soup; Roasted Beet, Peach and Goat Cheese Tower; Kale with Solebury Orchards Gala apples; Honey Lemon Garlic Chicken on a Corn and Zucchini Sauté; Grilled Marinated Summer Sausage with an Eggplant Onion Caponata, or a Cassoulet served with Polenta; and for dessert, Ginger Molasses Cake with Peach Ice Cream. All ingredients are sourced locally (within 50 miles). To purchase your tickets ($75 pp for Doylestown Food Co-op members; $95 pp for non-members), click here.
