Bucks Food Calendar: April 16, 2014

I keep pinching myself. Is it really spring? Or is this just a cruel joke? Despite the freezing night-time temps this week, I do think we’ve made it through. Welcome Spring!

Easter ham; photo courtesy of the Washington HouseIf you haven’t decided what to do about your Easter meal yet, check out our post, 2014—Going out for Easter, for a list of the many area restaurants offering Easter brunch and/or dinner. There are lots of choices and many good menus—not just your typical glazed ham. Read the post here.

Last Fish Fry at the Columbia Fire House. This Friday, April 18 is your last chance to enjoy a fish dinner at this old Lambertville fire company. New Jersey has decided to close this one-bay, eight-person fire company which has been hosting Lenten fish fry dinners for 32 years. Go say goodbye and enjoy fried or broiled fish, mac n’ cheese, stewed tomatoes and more at the Columbia Fire Co. #4, 177 N. Union St. in Lambertville, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm.

Newtown’s event includes 10 eateries, all of them along State Street in the borough. Some of the participating restaurants include The Brick Hotel, Cafe Con Leche, Pat’s Colonial Kitchen, the State Street Kitchen, Florentino’s and Tiramisu. You know it’s spring when…the Doylestown Farmers’ Market opens their Marigolds at Doylestown FArmers Mktseason. The market is the first to open every year and it cheers my heart to no end. The market, in its 39th year, opens Saturday, April 19 from 7 AM to noon, rain or shine. It’s an open air venue located in the heart of Doylestown Borough and includes 25+ vendors selling everything from fresh seasonal produce to eggs, dairy, meat, poultry, baked goods, local honey and maple syrup, jams, jellies, pates, sauces, pickles, oils, roasted coffee beans, all natural skin products, alpaca goods and other locally produced items. The market has live music, children’s activities, chef demonstrations and more each Saturday morning. For more information visit www.buckinghampacivic.org. [Look next Friday, April 25 for opening day at the Ottsville Farmers’ Market, 4 – 7 pm]

The free event begins at 11 am and goes until 4 pm. See their Facebook page for more information.
