Bucks Food Calendar: April 13, 2012

The weekend looks like it will a beautiful one and a good reason to get out of the house. Where to go?

The Wrightstown Farmers’ Market will hold a “mini-market” this Saturday from 10 am to 11 am at their usual location (see address below). You’ll find everything from locally grown salad greens to eggs to pastured meats to baked goods. The market’s regular season begins May 5th, which is just around the corner. The Hunterdon Land Trust Farmers’ Market will also have a mini-market this Sunday at Dvoor Farm in Flemington from 11 am to 1 pm. And of course the Stockton Market is open all weekend.

Want to see how a real sustainable farm works? Take a ride up to Bobolink Dairy Farm and Bakehouse this weekend.  You’ll meet the herd of cows that produces the milk that goes into Bobolink’s great cheeses. There are also piglets and chicks and new calves! Grab the kids and go. Here’s directions and information on farm tours.

It’s a great weekend for community meals too. Tonight the Delaware Valley Fire Co. in Erwinna holds their monthly Spaghetti Dinner. There’s another Spaghetti Dinner tomorrow night in Richlandtown at St. John’s United Church of Christ. The West Amwell Firehouse will host their Roast Beef Dinner tomorrow night too. There are three “pancake breakfasts” this weekend. One at the Point Pleasant Community Baptist Church (in Point Pleasant, Pa) on Saturday and two firehouse breakfasts on Sunday – one in Perkasie and one in Riegelsville. See below for addresses and see our full calendar for more details.

Last September the Yardley Inn hosted the 1st Annual Nate DeTample Scholarship Fundraiser last year with a special cooking class by executive chef Eben Copple. It was such a success that the inn is hosting a second iteration of this fun culinary affair in honor and in memory of Army Pfc. Nathaniel E. DeTample, Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This year’s fundraiser takes place on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 7 p.m. and includes a special evening of culinary instruction by chef Copple with recipes to take home, this time featuring the Yardley Inn’s popular Crab Cakes and Jicama Slaw. The cost is $35 per person and all proceeds go to the Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation’s Endowed Namesake Scholarship for Nate DeTample.
