A back-to-school double header

The Doylestown Food Co-Op’s September Book Club and the Farm Fresh Film Series continues with a Back to School double header. The DFC Book Club is reading author and filmmaker Amy Kalafa’s Lunch Wars: How to Start a School Food Revolution and Win the Battle for Our Children’s Health and the DFC Farm Fresh Film Series will be presenting Two Angry Moms.” Both the book and the film discuss school lunch programs. Amy Kalafa will be presenting at both events.

Two Angry MomsDo you know what your children are eating at school? If your child brings lunch from home, then you do. If, like millions of school children across the country, your child is eating a “school lunch” prepared by one of the multinational food service providers, you likely don’t. Once you know what’s in these meals, will you still approve?

Now, a group of local moms, led by the Doylestown Food Co-Op wants Bucks County parents to come together to look at what our children are eating in our schools, and learn what we can do to ensure they are eating food that is better for them.

You’ll be able to meet and hear filmmaker and mom, Amy Kalafa of Weston, CT, in Doylestown twice this month. At The Doylestown Bookshop on September 10 at 6:15 pm, Amy will be discussing Lunch Wars: How to Start a School Food Revolution and Win the Battle for Our Children’s Heath and at The County Theater on September 26 she will be presenting her documentary Two Angry Moms. Amy took on these challenges because she was fed up with her children eating highly-processed food filled with additives and preservatives at school.

Timely, controversial and cutting edge, Two Angry Moms addresses an issue of great concern to parents across the country. What is happening to the health of our children and how does school food factor in?

The film will be shown at the County Theater on September 26 at 7:30 pm. The movie chronicles what happens when fed-up moms start a grass-roots revolution aimed at establishing programs that safeguard the health of our kids.

Lunch wars bookKalafa documents the efforts of leaders in the fledgling better school food movement, as they take on the system across the country in this eye opening documentary. Two Angry Moms shows not only on what is wrong with school food; it offers strategies for overcoming roadblocks and getting real food into school cafeterias. All over America, Amy discovers programs that connect the cafeteria with the classroom and connect our kids with the earth. The movie explores the roles the federal government, corporate interests, school administration and parents play in feeding our country’s school kids.

The screening is $8 for Doylestown Food Co-Op members and $10 to the general public. For more details about the movie and the movement please visit www.Doylestown. coop and the film’s website, Two Angry Moms.
