It’s happening. Winter is coming. I heard it on the news this morning, they say get ready for colder mornings and temperatures dropping below 40 degrees. We must enjoy the brisk weekends while we still can! This weekend, check out new wine from the Bucks County Wine Trail, and stop by a few local holiday bazaars for lunch and handmade gifts.

1. Farmers Market Fun
Saturday, November 12, various locations
It’s always a good time at the farmers market. This weekend, walk around, check out new vendors, and don’t forget to grab some produce and snacks to go. Also, make sure to order your fresh, local turkeys ASAP. Click here for where you can get your turkey.

Here is a full list of farmers markets in Bucks County and nearby. And here’s what you’ll find at area markets this weekend:
- Doylestown Farmers’ Market, W. State & Hamilton St., Doylestown: If you’ve never passed through the Doylestown Farmers’ Market, you don’t know what you are missing. The open air venue is right in the heart of Doylestown, with over 25 vendors. There’s only three Saturdays left in the 2016 market season, so don’t miss out on all the winter produce like winter squash, sweet potatoes, yams and Swiss chard. Also stock up on cheese, honey, jams, baked goods, and more.
- Wrightstown Farmers Market, 2203 2nd St. Pike, Wrightstown: This weekend is the second to last market for the regular season, and then the Wrightstown Farmers Market moves indoors to the Barn at the Gathering in Penns Park (just up the road). In December, the market will take place on Saturday, December 10, Saturday, December 17 and Friday, December 23. The rest of the winter the market will be the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month through April. Start buying your fresh produce and meats for the holiday.
- Quakertown Farmers Market, 201 Station Rd., Quakertown: You can find pretty much anything you want to eat at this farmers market. Bread, baked goods, candy and nuts, a deli, coffee and tea, seafood, pizza and even sushi. Check out the full list of vendors here.
2. Addisville Reformed Church 72nd Country Store Bazaar
Saturday, November 12, 10 am – 7 pm, Addisville Reformed Church, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro, PA
It all began with a twelve pound chunk of cheese. In October 1960, Muriel Briggs and her family visited relatives in Ontario, Canada to celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving.
A cousin, who worked for Borden’s Cheese, gave her a 12 pound piece of cheese to sell at the upcoming Addisville Church Bazaar. Member Bertha Uhl suggested a “Country Store Table.” Penny candy, Farmer’s Almanacs, soft pretzels, cider, church plates, candied apples, and the twelve pound piece of cheese were sold at the table, and that was the beginning of what is now the Country Store Bazaar.
Addisville is celebrating its 72nd Country Store Bazaar this Saturday, November 12 from 10 am – 7 pm. The bazaar includes a baked goods table, books, soup, hand crafted items, and more. There will be a lunch served from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm and a home-cooked ham dinner from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Proceeds from the Country Store Bazaar go to support domestic and foreign missions from its local church. Dinner tickets are available at the door.
3. Holiday Bazaar at River Valley Waldorf School
Saturday, November 12, 10 am – 5 pm, River Valley Waldorf School, 1395 Bridgeton Hill Rd., Upper Black Eddy, PA
Join the River Valley Waldorf School for its annual holiday bazaar, a great way to get some of your holiday shopping finished. Plus, you can fill up on a delicious lunch served by Nellie Rae’s Kitchen. Favorite vendors are returning, selling everything from lavender products to linens, on-site henna tattoos and scarves. Also, Cloud 9 Organics will be on hand offering their fluffy cotton candy to munch on.
4. Castle Valley Mill Demo and Tasting
Saturday, November 12, Doylestown Food Market, 29 West State St., Doylestown, PA
Castle Valley Mill mills non-GMO grains to create stone ground flours and meals. They are located in the heart of Bucks County, just outside of Doylestown. This Saturday, November 12 at the Doylestown Food Market, you can sample Castle Valley Mill’s products, and receive 20% off the products all month long.
What can you make with Castle Valley Mill flours and meals? Start by trying this cornbread recipe, courtesy of CVM. Pick up some fresh rosemary, milk and eggs if you stop by a farmers market and use it to make this bread.

5. Firehouse Breakfast
Sunday, November 13, 8 am – 1 pm, Silverdale Fire Co., 111 Main St., Silverdale, PA
Breakfast is back! Enjoy some classic breakfast foods this Sunday at the Silverdale Fire Co., including pancakes, eggs, toast, potatoes, sausage links, pork roll, creamed dried beef, coffee, tea and assorted pastries and juices. Cost for adults is $7, children six to 12 years old are $4.50, under six years old eat free. Take out is available. Call to confirm at 215.257.9620.
6. Rising Sun Inn 10th Anniversary
Sunday, November 13, 1- 6 pm, Rising Sun Inn, 898 Allentown Rd., Telford, PA
Chef Fred, partners and staff of the Rising Sun Inn are celebrating 10 years of fine dining. Join the celebration on Sunday, November 13 from 1 – 6 pm, where you can buy one entrée and get one free. Plus, enjoy special a la carte menu. Reservations are recommended so call 215.721.6350.
7. Bucks County Wine Trail
Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, various hours, Bucks County wineries
The Bucks County Wine Trail releases Nouveau wines this weekend, and five of the nine local wineries will offer newly fermented wine on November 12 – 13. All you wine lovers can taste the newest varieties during the weekend, and pick up some for the upcoming holiday dinners.
Buckingham Valley Vineyards, Crossing Vineyards and Winery, New Hope Winery, Rushland Ridge Vineyards and Winery and Sand Castle Winery are offering Nouveau wine tastings during the event.
Depending on the winery, you may get to listen to live music while you sip. Hours are Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, and Sunday 12 – 5 pm. To learn more about this event, visit the wine trail’s website.
Here’s what you can experience this weekend:
- Buckingham Valley Vineyards and Winery will pair its homemade onion bread with a lightly sweet Nouveau wine. The winery may also offer live music, depending on weather. Hours: Saturday 11 am – 6 pm, and Sunday 12 – 5 pm.
- Crossing Vineyards and Winery will offer a specialty pairing of its Le Nouveau 2016 with cheeses, cured meats and chocolates for $20. Live music is planned for November 12 from 1 – 5 pm. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 6 pm.
- New Hope Winery will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 am – 5 pm.
- Rushland Ridge Vineyard and Winery will offer tastings of its fermented grape juice from the 2016 harvest. Hours are Saturday 12 – 6 pm, and Sunday 12 – 4 pm.
- Sand Castle Winery will release its new vintage wine of 2016 on November 12. On November 13 the winery is having a bonfire celebration. Check their website or call to see if there are spots left.
