Finally! A weekend without snow, and with some “warm” weather. Start off the weekend tonight with some Southern brews, learn how to tap maple syrup and then go eat some pancakes. Oh, and get a pizza “wit whiz” too. It’s all here in Bucks County and nearby Hunterdon County. Enjoy the weekend!


1. Tap Takeover: SweetWater Brewing Company

Spend your “Thirsty Thursday” at the Continental Tavern in Yardley. It’s their Tap Takeover, featuring SweetWater Brewing Company of Georgia. Today, February 18, from 7 – 9 pm, the Tavern is featuring five delicious brews from SweetWater like their 420 Extra, Pale Ale, IPA, Festive Ale, Take Two Pils, and Blue Wheat. Everybody will be staying warm with these southern brews!

2. Yardley Farmers Market

Fresh bread, local produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs, locally roasted coffee and more at the Yardley Farmers Market, held indoor during the winter months. And…there’s breakfast too! Made with products from market vendors. Yum.

3. Pizza “Whiz Wit”

* This is technically Hunterdon County, but who doesn’t love “wit whiz?”

Frank E. Olivieri, owner of the iconic Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia, will be the “Guest Pizzaiolo” at Liberty Hall Pizza on Saturday, February 20, in Lambertville, NJ. Instead of working the grill, Olivieri will be manning the wood-fired brick oven at the pizzeria.

“I’m so thrilled to be a guest pizzaiolo. People just know me for my cheesesteaks, but now they’ll get a chance to see another side of me, and I get to show off my cooking chops as a chef and not just the cheesesteak king,” says Olivieri.

Olivieri has created two specialty pies for the event: Pat’s King of Steaks mushroom cheese steak pizza (which has a secret cheese sauce), Kennett Square mushrooms and caramelized onions; and a white arugula pizza with arugula pesto topped with shaved parmesan, prosciutto and a hint of hot Calabrian peppers. Liberty Hall is open on Saturday’s from 11:30 am – 10 pm. The entire Liberty Hall Pizza menu will also be available along with the guest chef’s pizzas.

4. Maple Sugaring Program

If you’ve never tried real, fresh maple syrup, then you are missing out. Mrs. Butterworth might be tasty and all, but it’s packed with corn syrup and it just doesn’t compare to the real deal. Try this program at Silverlake Nature Center in Bristol. For only $6 and from 2 – 3:30 pm, come out and learn how to make natural maple syrup. 5. Two Firehouse Breakfasts

Looking for a nice breakfast this Sunday? Why not look at two options? Try breakfast at the Perkasie Fire Company which is serving up a great, all-you-can-eat buffet. The menu has options like eggs, pancakes, waffles, cream dried beef, sausage, bacon, scrapple, home fries, assorted juice and more. Top it off with a delicious dessert. Also on Sunday, February 21, enjoy breakfast at the Riegelsville Fire Company, where you can order a morning breakfast that benefits the fire company. The menu includes eggs, ham, sausage, scrapple, omelets, creamed dried beef on toast, pancakes and more. It’s served from 8 am – 12 pm and cooked by the firefighters just for you. 6. Magnificent Seven Archive Wine Tasting

Sunday, Feb. 21, 2 – 3:30 pm, Sand Castle Winery, 755 River Road, Erwinna, PA

Can a PA winery make wines comparable to Burgundy and Napa? Sand Castle Winery says they have. This Sunday they are offering a special tasting of their 1997-2010 vintages: 2003 Riesling; 2002 Chardonnay Private Reserve; 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon; 2010 Pinot Noir; 2001 Orange Riesling; 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon; 2005 Pinot Noir and a barrel sample 0f 2010 future Millennium Cabernet Sauvignon. The event is $40 per person and includes an educational tasting of seven wines presented by the winemaker.
