In honor of National IPA Day the Continental Tavern is featuring 7 IPA’s on tap: Stone GOTO IPA, Troeg’s Perpetual IPA, Lagunita’s Night Time Black IPA, Continental Imperial IPA, Great Lakes Chillwave IPA, Bell’s Two Hearted IPA and Funk Double Citrus IPA. Here’s what the Continental Tavern has to say about this great beer day: “Founded in 2011, IPA Day is a universal movement created to unite the voices of craft beer enthusiasts, bloggers and brewers worldwide, using social media as the common arena for connecting the conversation. IPA Day is not the brainchild of a corporate marketing machine, nor is it meant to serve any particular beer brand. IPA Day is opportunity for all breweries, bloggers, businesses and consumers to connect and share their love of craft beer.” Enjoy!

TWO peach festivals! Let’s start with Manoff’s.

This annual festival at Manoff Market Gardens celebrates the peach (of which Manoff grows over 30 varieties!). Great day to tour around the farm or ride the hay wagon to the peach orchard. They will be making ice cream all day – you can even help crank it – as well as “Peach” everything to eat. Click here for more info.

At Peddler’s Village this weekend you can also indulge in all things peach. The annual festival features plenty of peachy treats, peach pie eating contests, sidewalk sales, children’s activities and live musical entertainment. You can pick up some locally grown peaches from Bechdolt’s Orchards and Bauman’s Pennsylvania Dutch peach butters and artisanal jams from Bucks County Preserves. The Peach Pie Eating Contest, held at 3 pm both Saturday and Sunday, provides lots of laughs and prizes for winners. Contestants are chosen by lottery and must sign up from 10 am 2:45 pm at the Hospitality Booth on the Main Green. Click here for the weekend’s schedule of food, children’s activities and the live musical entertainment.

Did you know that this whole week (Aug 2 – 8) is National Farmers Market Week? In fact, it’s the 16th Annual National Farmers Week, initiated by the US Dept of Agriculture. Here’s an interesting infographic about farmers markets and their impact on our local economies, environment and community. [click on the image to get more detail]

Why Farmers Markets infographicAnd here is what is going on at some local farmers markets this weekend:

At the Ottsville Farmers Market, on Friday, 4 pm to 7:30 pm, local chef Max Hansen will lead a tour of the market beginning at 4:30 pm. Stroll the market with Max and learn his perspective on all the fine ingredients to be found. Max will offer tips on selecting produce, innovative preparations of favorites and ideas on how to use things you may be unfamiliar with. He’ll share recipes as well. The market has also extended its hours for August until 7:30 pm.

At the Doylestown Farmers Market this Saturday, Anna Hamill-Perkins from ANNA P’s Catering, will highlight summer squash from Barefoot Gardens in a cooking demonstration.

The Wrightstown Farmers Market will have 27 vendors this Saturday! Produce, baked goods, pastured meats, prepared foods, the Greek Street Food Truck and a Cookbook Give-Away.
