10 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (January 27-29)

You certainly can’t say you’re bored this weekend if you live in Bucks County. From Friday to Sunday, you’ll find foodie events that are low-key, affordable, classy, and just plain delicious. From the annual Burns’ poetry night with a Scottish dinner, to Winter Fest’s Beef n’ Brew event, there is something for every type of diner.

1. 8th Annual Burns Night Supper

Friday, January 27, 6:30 – 10:30 pm, Black Bass Hotel, 3774 River Rd., Lumberville, PA

This Friday night is the annual celebration of Scotland’s revolutionary poet, Robert Burns at the Black Bass Hotel. Experience all of the flavors of a true Burns supper, including dishes like haggis, neeps and tatties, Scottish spirits and more. You can listen to the sounds of the piper’s bagpipe, toast to the laddies and lassies, and enjoy the presentation of the haggis, performed in the Scots language by the restaurant’s own Grant Ross. Highland dress is optional, some Tartan essential. Space is limited so call 215.297.9260. The entire meal is a four course prix-fixe for $125 which includes the alcohol, tax and gratuity.

2. Cherry Lane Band at Cactus Grill

The Cherry Lane Band kicks off its 2017 schedule at the Cactus Grill this Friday. Join the band for some great eats, drinks, and a night of music and dancing. Enjoy appetizers like black bean and cheese dip, coconut shrimp, or their “cactus wings.” For dinner reservations, call 215.766.9840. No cover for the event.

3. Wrightstown Winter Farmers Market

Saturday, January 28, 10 am – 12 pm, The Barn @ The Gathering, 2324 2nd Street Pike, Wrightstown, PA

Does your kitchen need a food boost? Stop by the Winter Wrightstown Farmers Market for local produce, freshly baked breads, grass-fed meats, fresh and aged artisanal cheeses, organic locally roasted coffee, eggs from pastured hens, artisan goodies, and other prepared foods.

New this week, Eight Oaks Craft Distillery will be there offering their own rye whiskey, vodka, gin, rum and Applejack. They are a veteran-owned, farm distillery, growing all of their own grains and sourcing apples from Scholl Orchards.

Also, Purely Farm has started selling their own charcuterie made from their pasture-raised hogs. Take home some coppa, culatello, lonzino and spuma di gota. Check out all the market vendors here.

4. Winter Festival Beef n’ Brew

Winter Festival Beef n BrewOur mouths water at the thought of a hot roast beef sandwich. Add Triumph Brewing Company’s beers into the mix, and you have one filling lunch! Come to the Annual Beef n’ Brew this Saturday, January 28, where you can enjoy the sandwiches and beer from 1 – 4 pm. Tickets are $40 and this is event is for adults aged 21 and up. Don’t delay. Tickets often sell out.

5. Wok n’ Roll for Julian

Saturday, January 28, 7 – 11 pm, Rago Arts & Auction Center, 333 North Main St., Lambertville, NJ

Celebrate the Chinese New Year to support a good cause this Saturday at the Rago Arts & Auction Center in Lambertville. There will be food, live music, and a DJ dance party. There will also be a pop-up boutique the night of the event, an onsite and online silent auction, and a live auction. Max Hansen Catering is making the food with a cash bar to go with it. The night will benefit Julian LaPlante’s recovery funds from a traumatic car accident last June. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or in advance.

6. Taste of Winter Fest

Saturday, January 28, 7 – 9 pm, The Inn at Lambertville Station, 11 Bridge St., Lambertville, NJ

 

Pouring wineThe Taste of Winter Festival event at the Inn at Lambertville Station spotlights local restaurants, wineries and breweries. This event highlights the culinary delights the river towns have to offer, so come and sample everything. The Logan Inn, Hotel du Village, Hamilton’s Grill Room, Bowman’s Tavern and others will all be in attendance. Tickets are $45, and the event runs from 7 – 9 pm.

7. Firehouse Breakfast

Nothing beats a warm meal on a cool Sunday morning. Enjoy the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at the Haycock Fire Company in Quakertown this Sunday.

The fire company is serving breakfast from 8 am – 12 pm. Adults pay $7, children from ages four to seven $5, and children three and under eat free. There will be pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage links, plain and seasoned potatoes, cream chipped beef, toast, fruit cocktail, and homemade desserts.

8. The 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off

Stay out of the cold this weekend by participating in the Annual Chili Cook Off , one of the most popular Winter Fest events.

This year features some of the tastiest and most original chili created by local restaurants, with local beers to wash it down. Vote for your favorite chili in the People’s Choice Award and then wait for the Judge’s Choice Award.

The competition, the chili, and the people you’ll meet will be lively. Here is a list of the participating restaurants. This is a limited ticket event, $50 for adults and $45 for those 21 and under. This event also sells out quickly.

9. Pairing Wine and Cupcakes Class

Sunday, January 29, 2 – 3 pm, Crossing Vineyards and Winery, 1853 Wrightstown Rd., Washington Crossing, PA

Enjoy a tasting of several of Crossing Vineyard’s wines, paired with plenty of tasty mini cupcakes. The instructor will give you tasting tips as you sample the wines that are both dry and sweet, white and red, and all complemented by the different cupcake flavors. Tickets are $35 per person, and you can buy your tickets here.

10. Annual NHA Appreciation Dinner

Sunday, January 29, 6 – 11 pm, Temperance House, 5 South State St., Newtown, PA

Newtown Historic Association

The Newtown Historic Association’s Annual Appreciation Dinner for the holiday open house tour sites will be held at the Temperance House, in Newtown. Join your community for a dinner of filet tips with a mushroom demi glaze, bruschetta salmon, or chicken picatta. All members and guests are invited to this event. Dinner starts at 7 pm but you can come early for the cash bar at 6 pm. Tickets are $40 and space is limited.
