Bucks Food Calendar: November 12, 2010

Sorry for the delay in our calendar post this week. I’ve been wrangling with a computer virus all day. Grrrrr.

As I prepared this post, I was quite amazed at how many food events are going on. My worry was that as the growing season wanes, and the cold weather brings folks inside more, I’d have less events listed. While that’s true to a certain extent, the fun is just moving inside!

Just this weekend, for instance, we’ve got wine classes and releases (Alba Vineyard’s Forbidden Ice Wine release, classes at Crossing), cooking classes, food-related fundraisers and benefits (The 8th Annual Culinary Classics, Spay-ghetti and (No)Meat Balls Dinner, and Taste of Hunterdon on Monday), firehouse breakfasts and dinners (Plumsteadville, Delaware Valley), harvest festivals (@ Jamie Hollander’s), a vegetarian Supper Club (Kindle Cafe), and even opera and wine (Sand Castle Winery). And of course, farmers’ markets.

To market, to market. There is still LOTS of fresh produce to be had at local farmers’ markets all from Bucks County farms, as well as eggs, pastured meats, coffee and teas, baked goods, honey and preserves, cheeses, and gift items but these are the last few weeks of markets, so shop for all your Thanksgiving groceries and vegetables, like sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, greens, etc..

Did you know that all these veggies can be stored for up to 2 months in your fridge?  Beets, Cabbage, Carrots, Celery Root, Daikon, Kohlrabi, Radishes, Rutabaga, Sweet White Turnips. You’ll also find in most markets right now: Arugula , Broccoli, Broccoli Raab, Cauliflower, Collard Greens, Kale, Leeks, Lettuce, Parsley, Hot Peppers, Sweet Peppers, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Tatsoi (green), and more!

Want to skip making Thanksgiving at home? There are over two dozen restaurants listed on our post, 2010 – Going Out For Thanksgiving. Or, if you want to skip the cooking, but still have a nice meal at home, we’ve also listed in the same article where you can get turkey dinners to go.

Coming up next weekend… 2010 Nouveau Wine Festival at Crossing Vineyards. I’m looking forward to this in particular since it may give us an indication of the quality of the local 2010 vintage. And I want a few bottles for Thanksgiving.
