Local foodie gifts: Cool gift baskets

Not sure what to get someone, but you want it to be unique? Look no further than Bucks County. Here’s a few local businesses that are putting together some pretty cool gift baskets.

The Kitchen Potager sits on the Linden Hill Gardens property in Ottsville. Kristen Perry is the proprietor and creative mind behind this special business. She is also the market manager of the Ottsville Farmers’ Market and impresario of some wonderful farm-to-table dinners – so she knows her Bucks County food sources! This time of year, Kristen puts together Bucks Bounty Baskets – beautiful gift baskets filled with goods from local producers like Ajiri Tea, Brad’s Raw Chips, Buckingham Valley Honey, Bucks County Preserves, Chestnut Hill Gourmet Foods, The Coffee Scoop, Delice de Catharge Tunisian Organic Olive Oil, Marie’s Soap, oWow Cow Creamery, Peace Valley Lavender Farm, Riverwick Candles, Rocky Top Farm, Yafa’s Joy Sesame Treats, and books from Canal House Cooking and Linden Hill Gardens. She will package items for pick up in a large or small crate (made in the USA), wrapped, with a brochure describing the local sources and a gift card. Free delivery is available within a ten mile radius of Ottsville for the holiday season or for group deliveries. Contact Kristin at 215.767.4051 or kp@thekitchenpotager.com.

UniquelyBUCKS offers gift baskets of some of the best handcrafted goods made in Bucks County, including Laurie’s Chocolates, Doug’s Cakes, The Grain Exchange, and many non-food artisan products like pottery, tiles, jewelry, candles, soaps and other home items. How about sending a basket of decadent and delicious cakes and cupcakes, or a Naked Lady Gift Set, Sugar Scrub Sampler or a Pampered Pup Gift Set? If none of that does it for you, give a gift certificate and let them choose for themselves! It all goes to local businesses here in Bucks County. See their website for more ideas.

Don’t forget some old friends too. Your favorite farm markets have some great gift and wine baskets. Tabora Farm and Orchard in Chalfont makes some beautiful – and delicious – gift baskets made from their famous baked goods and other gourmet items. Stop by the store or order online.

Drop in at None Such Farm Market in Buckingham. In addition to gift baskets of their goods, you can also pick up some wine gifts from Buckingham Valley Vineyards. I’ve been known to stop by at a moment’s notice to pick up a festively wrapped bottle of bubbly or Port from the local winery. It looks beautiful and tastes good too!

Shady Brook Farm and The Market at DelVal also carry some lovely gift baskets this time of year filled with both local food and other gourmet items. See their websites for more information.

Want a more Italian flair? Stop by Pasqualina’s Italian Market & Deli for a gift basket filled with wonderful cheeses, chocolates, and homemade pizelles (my favorite). Another great gift is a trio of their house olive oils – one each of Spanish, Italian and Greek – handpicked and tasted by Patty and Brian Gianfelice, owners of this special Italian market in Blooming Glen.

As always, if I’ve left out someone you feel deserves mention, feel free to comment below or contact us at info@buckscountytaste.com.

  1. I WANT TO PURCHASE SMALL BOTTLES OF WINE TO FIX MY OWN BASKETS FOR THE OUT OF TOWN PEOPLE AT THE HOTEL FOR A MAY 2011 WEDDING. WHERE CAN I GET S SMALL BOTTLES AND LABEL AND PRICING. THANK YOU

  2. I’m not sure who does small bottles around here. I would start with New Hope Winery, and then call some of the other local wineries (Bucks County Wine Trail). They may not do small bottles but you may be able to negotiate something reasonable price-wise.

And if you would, let me know what you come up with. I’d just like to know for my own information.

Another nice idea for the basket would be Bucks County Preserves. Jerry Krone does lots of interesting, yummy flavors.
